23 Other expenses
This item includes the cost of stationery, office overheads, data processing and
data communications, as well as decreases in the value of unconsolidated
associated companies and results on the sale of property.
24 Taxation
This is the total taxation due on the profits from the domestic and foreign
activities of the Group in the year under review.
Taxation increased overall by 6.3%, although the tax burden declined.
There was a net increase in taxation in respect of domestic activities mainly
owing to the increase in gross profit while for foreign activities there was a net
fall, attributable amongst others, to more generous fiscal allowances in some
countries.
