Consolidated balance sheet.
As shown by Table 1, the balance sheet total as
at 31 December 1985, was Fl. 142.3 billion,
representing a drop of Fl. 4.7 billion or 3.2%
compared with the figure as at the end of 1984.
This decline, despite continued growth in the
volume of business both at home and abroad in
1985, was due to the falling exchange rates for
the majority of foreign currencies, including a
fall of 22% in the dollar exchange rate. These
falling exchange rates had a major impact on the
volume of our Eurodeposit business in the
Netherlands as expressed in guilders - included
in the item Banks - and also on the volume of
funds entrusted to the bank and of lending
business in the foreign sector.
Table 2 provides a geographical analysis of the
balance sheet total. The share of domestic
activities in the total as at 31 December 1985
was Fl. 93.5 billion (65.7%) compared with
Fl. 95.6 billion (65.1%) as at the end of 1984. The
share of the balance sheet total accounted for by
foreign activities as at 31 December 1985 was
Fl. 48.8 billion (34.3%) compared with Fl. 51.4
billion (34.9%) as at the end of 1984.
Finally, in Table 3, the major groups of balance
sheet items are analysed into domestic and
foreign activities.
